My journey
meet laura
I remember the moment I decided I wanted to become a Mediator. I had travelled home from Court after an extremely long day. I was running over the day in my head. I knew my passion and real strength lay in resolving matters and I messaged a colleague who had been at Court that day too. I said ‘hey, I think I am going to be a mediator’. Her reply was simple, ‘Yes, you were made for that’. At the time I did not know how or when it would happen, but I knew that I wanted more from my legal skills and wanted to assist in a more positive manner. I obtained my family dispute resolution qualifications and in 2018 became a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP).
after 18 years as a lawyer working exclusively in family law and as a mediator for 8 years, I decided that I wanted more. More flexibility, more time, more structure, more autonomy and more ability to help separating couples in a different way by keeping them out of the Court system. I took the leap out of Partnership in private practice, and Solution Focus Mediations was born.
My mediation style can be varied, I adapt to the needs of each individual, but I always ensure we are focusing on a solution, not just a problem. Solution Focus Mediations aims to have parties resolve their family law issues, whilst the power is still in their hands and whilst they control the narrative. My role is to facilitate and help you achieve that outcome in a solution focus manner.
I know that many separating people simply cannot afford the privilege of legal representation and a Mediator. Over the years I have engaged lots of wonderful mediators myself and I am aware of the current rate Mediators are charging. I have made a conscious choice to offer an alternative to the current mediation rates without compromising quality and service.
I also understand the juggles of life and the difficulty creating time during the week for a mediation can cause. This is why, with specific requirements, I also offer weekend mediations. for those wishing to book in a weekend mediation, please reach out to me and we can discuss suitable dates.
